More than 200 times in Scripture, the Holy Spirit is symbolized as oil! In the Old Testament, oil was poured on a rock and it was called, “Bethel,” which means The House of God. The presence of that oil meant God was there. Likewise, when we see the oil of the Holy Spirit in the New Testament, God’s presence is there. We are anointed with the Holy Spirit — in fact, we have an anointing from the Holy One (1 John 2:20). And we are Bethel, the dwelling place of God!
