Tonight’s Home Group description: First Peter 5:7 lets us know it’s not God’s will for us to carry cares, anxieties, and worries. In fact, this verse tells us to cast all our care on Him because He cares for us. But what does that mean, exactly? In the Middle East, it is not unusual to see men carrying tremendous amounts of weight on their shoulders, almost to the point it seems like they will collapse under it. Many times, when carrying such weight, the man will call out to someone to bring him a beast. Usually it is a camel or a donkey. When that beast comes right alongside him, he heaves and pushes the weight of that burden over onto the back of that beast. The burden didn’t disappear — it was just transferred over onto the back of a beast that was able to carry it. This verse never says there’s nothing to worry about — it just says YOU don’t have to carry it. Jesus is our Beast of Burden! He comes right alongside us and says, “Push, heave, and roll that care over onto Me!” Even if the burden is still there, Jesus walks alongside us and carries it for us, and we are free!
