When you begin to speak in tongues, you are developing what First Corinthians 14 calls a “prayer language.” Acts 2:4 says, “They were all filled with the Spirit and began to speak in tongues as the Holy Spirit gave them utterance.” Any time you begin to function in a new language, you’re usually a little timid. Your ears are not accustom to the unfamiliar sound and your mind doesn’t comprehend it. It’s the same way with speaking in tongues. Not only are you not used to hearing the new sound of it, your mind and flesh will try to reason against it. Just keep praying in the Spirit (see Ephesians 6:18). It may not be natural to your ears, but it will become natural to you. Tune in to tonight’s Home Group and learn more about this supernatural language God has given to the Church!
