Why do I need to be saved? What is salvation and why is it important?
In a word, salvation means being saved from separation from God. According to the Bible, all mankind — men and women — inherited this separation when Adam disobeyed God in the garden of Eden, causing spiritual death, or separation from God, to enter into him. But God in His mercy, loved us so much and wanted us to spend eternity in Heaven that He sent His only Son, Jesus, to end that separation and legally restore our relationship with Him just as it was before Adam sinned. This restored relationship with God is a free gift. Would you like to pray the following prayer for yourself to receive this gift of reconciliation to God and eternal life?
If your answer was yes, pray this prayer out loud.
Dear God,
I believe these things are true and that You really are hearing my prayer, so I come to You in the name of Your Son Jesus. I now realize after reading this why I need this salvation. I ask You to forgive me of my sin that was inherited from Adam. You said that the wages of sin is death, even eternal death and separation from You — BUT that the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ. And You said if I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord, and if I acknowledge that He died to restore my relationship with You — believing in my heart that You raised Jesus from the dead — I will be saved (Romans 6:23; 10:9). I confess right now, out loud, that Jesus is Lord, and I believe in my heart that You raised Him from the dead for me. Thank You for saving me!
In Jesus’ Name I pray.
If you prayed that prayer, write your name in the Lamb’s Book of Life! While we know it’s not “THE” Lamb’s of Life in heaven, this is a way of acknowledging to yourself that your name IS now written in the actual Lamb’s Book of Life in heaven as a result of your faith in Jesus’ sacrifice for YOU!
