Rescuing Homeless Kids and Adults
In addition to providing thousands of meals each year for Moscow’s homeless population, the House of Mercy staff also manages a family-style orphanage in which orphaned or abandoned children are brought into family settings to be loved and cared for. Committed and passionate for these forgotten children who have no place to go and no natural hope for their future, HOM provides food, distributes clothing, conducts evangelistic crusades, holds weekly church services and Bible studies, and hosts home groups at state shelters – all to share the truth that God loves all people and has a plan for their lives. House of Mercy daily encounters heart-wrenching stories that, by the mercy of God, find opportunities to result in happy endings. There are so many powerful testimonies of children rescued by this ministry. For example, two girls were sold by their parents into the sex industry of Moscow. Later, however, they were rescued by the House of Mercy ministry, and today these girls live safe and sound and are thriving in this God-sent mission. One small boy watched his parents kill his older brother. To save himself from the same fate, the little boy ran away. At the time he hit the streets, he was only four years old. He lived in a filthy, abandoned building with other children for two years before House of Mercy found him. Today he lives in a clean apartment with other House of Mercy children and with loving caregivers who are determined to see these young lives reach their divine potential and destiny. House of Mercy conducts trips to youth prisons, boarding schools, and mental institutions and hospitals to reach even more hurting and abandoned children whose lives are aching for an expression of God’s mercy. With an ever-broadening vision to help the hundreds of thousands of children living in utter deprivation in Moscow, HOM plans to build a facility to rescue even more of the wounded and forsaken children in this vast city. This vital outreach regularly:
- Ministers Bible lessons at children’s mental hospitals, where we give gifts to patients that include yogurt, oranges, sweets, and small containers of juice. We also provide personal- and spiritual-care items for the staff, as well as necessities for the everyday maintenance and operation of the facility, such as paper and cleaning products.
- Provides more than 4,000 meals to homeless adults and young people each year on the streets of Moscow — sometimes the only food each day that most of these people receive!
- Conducts special evangelistic programs during the holidays for more than 1,000 children in closed institutions for more than 400 adults from four state shelters.
- Facilitates “home groups” at state homeless shelters, which HOM staff and volunteers began at these shelters and continue to conduct each week. These “home” meetings not only provide attendees with solid teaching from God’s Word, but they also restore to group members a sense of community and belonging that the enemy had stolen from them — or that some had never experienced before their encounter with House of Mercy.
James 1:27 says, “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” Those who are being helped by the House of Mercy outreach are exactly the type of people God asks us to reach out to and care for in their affliction. And through the prayer and financial support of our friends and partners, RENNER Ministries is doing just that.
